Fox Sparrows in my Toronto Garden

12 April 2010

Fox Sparrows are regulars on spring migration in my Toronto garden around the compost heap where I spread niger seed.

They vigorously double-scratch lifting both large feet off the ground at the same time, kicking back leaves and soil to get at the seeds. Song Sparrows and Dark-eyed Juncos also double-scratch.

The Fox Sparrows are in full song at this time of year.
