Scissor-tailed Flycatcher at Demorestville, Prince Edward County, Ontario

Many thanks to property owner, Marlene Bulpit, for welcoming us and providing access to the pasture on16 April 2012. This male Scissor-tailed Flycatcher had a very long tail and bright orange wingpits visible in flight. Always a big attraction, Scissor-tailed Flycatchers are almost annual visitors to Ontario. There are 58 accepted Ontario records to December 2010.

It was actively feeding on insects, frequently flying to the ground and returning to mullein and thistle perches in the pasture.

Thanks to Janice Melendez for driving John Stirrat, Joyce Collier-Brown and me from Whitby to Prince Edward County to see the flycatcher.
