Sandhill Cranes Migrate over Thickson Point

VIDEO: while checking the ducks on Lake Ontario, I heard the vocalization of 90 Sandhill Cranes as they soared over Thickson Point in Whitby, east of Toronto.

About 30 minutes later, John Brett saw the same 90 Sandhills over his house in Scarborough. Please click for the link to his eBird checklist

An hour later at 3:20 p.m. about 40-50 km west, my friend Eleanor T. Beagan saw what we think is the same flock in Toronto fly over the Don Valley Parkway south of Eglinton. She said "They finally peeled off to the west in two, long v-lines. Delightful sighting in the middle of the city. I kept thinking that if they were looking for cornfield, they had a few miles to go." 27 November 2017

They kettled over Lake Ontario, then flew west along the shoreline. Thickson Point in Whitby on 27 November 2017.

On this day there were many reports of migrating Sandhill Cranes. Another friend commented on Facebook that he saw 500 in a field in Port Rowan near Long Point..
