Slaty-backed Gull Niagara

3 December 2011

Adult Slaty-backed Gull found by Kevin McLaughlin at the Control Gates at Chippawa above the Falls. Its legs were a bright bubble gum pink. It was smaller than a Great Black-backed Gull, about the same size as the Herring Gulls. Mantle shade was not as dark as a Great Black-backed.

It had moderate head streaking, pale yellow eye, wide tertial crescent and wide trailing edge to the secondaries.
