Thayer's and Kumlien's Gulls in Toronto

On 4 January 2014, Willie D'Anna, Betsy Potter, Ron Pittaway and I visited Bluffers Park on Lake Ontario in east Toronto to study the Thayer's and Kumlien's Gulls. There were about 12 of these Arctic gulls, mostly Kumlien's. We noted various combinations of wingtip pigmentation from darkest in Thayer's Gull through to pale grey in Kumlien's with highly variable eye colour and winter head streaking. Bluffers Park is at the south end of Brimley Road.
