Bank Swallow Colony at Bluffers Park in Toronto

High on the Scarborough Bluffs at Bluffers Park on the north shore of Lake Ontario in Toronto is a large Bank Swallow colony comprising many hundreds of burrows, which are excavated into the vertical face of the cliff. 18 June 2015.

The Bank Swallows were very active, going in and out of their burrows and hunting for flying insects along the beach where their raspy chattering alerted us to their presence. A Belted Kingfisher also has a large burrow in the middle of the colony. 18 June 2015
