Piping Plover at Reesor Pond in Markham

Stan Long found this unbanded male Piping Plover at Reesor Pond in Markham, Ontario, near Toronto on 22 May 2012.

 

Water level at Reesor Pond is high and it spent most time on the rocky spits where it caught prey and preened.

 

Male Piping Plover is told by the distinct black collar and forehead.

 

Piping Plovers like wide sandy beaches. A banded Piping Plover was at Darlington Provincial Park on 27 and 28 May 2009.

 

In May 2012, a Piping Plover was reported from Presqu'ile Provincial Park. In spring 2011, we received reports of Piping Plovers from Darlington Provincial Park and Toronto Islands.
