Semipalmated Sandpipers and Dunlin in Toronto

Semipalmated Sandpipers rest while on their long northbound migration from South America to their Arctic breeding grounds. Colonel Sam Smith Park in Toronto. 23 May 2014.

 

We could see the semipalmation (partial webbing) between the middle and outer toe. This partial webbing gives this small shorebird its name

Over the course of the day we saw over 1100 Dunlins, the larger shorebird on the right. 23 May 2014.
