French Polynesia - The Marquesas Islands - Page 6

We sailed between the mainland of Ua Huka on the left and the flat-topped bird island with thousands of nesting Sooty Terns and other seabirds. The noise was amazing. The other cone shaped island is also a bird island.

 

Hundreds of birds swirled in the air and were packed closely together on the rocky surface.

Brown Boobies (above) were fairly common at sea, but Red-footed Boobies were the most common booby in the Marquesas. 27 November 2010.

 

 

We received a warm welcome everywhere and were sorry to leave the Marquesas Islands
